The career assessment has been very interesting. I was not surprised that my highest motivation was money. I believe that has something to do with the fact that I am currently unemployed and money is a main topic right now. We have actually struggled financially for most of our marriage, this being the 7th or 8th time that I have been unemployed. The thought of running my own business continues to increase, because I am tired of being fired from jobs. At the same time I am unsure of what type of business I would like to run exactly and if I really have what it takes to make it successful. As I was learning more about the motivation section I read the following statement, “The Leadership Motivations Profile forces you to do what you need -- but don't necessarily want -- to do: decide what you're willing to give up in return for what you want most.” This is something that I need to put on a card and read every day when I am working on my next job. I would like to get started in a business of my own, but I think the best way to help my family right now is to get a job and work our way towards running a business. I also liked the statement about financial gain being your main motivator. “The most important risk is the same for everyone with this as a key motivator -- doing something you're not really interested in for the sole reason that you can make a lot of money doing it. If you're not interested in it, you're far less likely to be successful and make all that money. And, even if you do make it, it may not be all that gratifying anyway. An investment banker who hates the work is going to be happy one day a year -- when bonuses are announced.” I truly would like to be able to do something that I enjoy and be able to make a decent living at it. Decent meaning that I am able to take care of my family, put money away for a rainy day, save for missions, and create some amazing family memories. What a wonderful experience it would be to have more money than month. I would love to be able to pay it forward to other’s that might be struggling and give more to worthy causes. I made the decision when I was younger not to pursue a college degree. Well, my thoughts have changed over the years and now I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree. I still believe that you do not need a degree to make it financially. However, I do believe that by enhancing my education it will produce opportunities that might not otherwise take place. The Career Assessment was a very helpful process that has a lot of information for me to review. Currently, I am in the looking stage and I have been struggling with deciding what I am good at and what I would really like to do.
